Order Pickers

Trenton, MI

Job Title: Order Picker / Packer – Warehouse

Job Description

This role is based in a wholesale warehouse that stores and ships supplies for trophies, awards, signs, and personalized items. You start as an order picker and receive training to become proficient in both picking and packing. Using paper pick tickets and a visual catalog, you locate, pick, and prepare items for shipment. The focus is on accuracy and quality rather than speed, and over time you will learn additional tasks such as visual quality checks, inventory, cycle counts, and packing orders for shipment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review paper pick tickets to understand customer orders.
  • Use a catalog and visual references to identify the correct items when needed.
  • Walk throughout the warehouse to locate products and match part numbers to ensure accurate picking.
  • Consistently lift items up to approximately 30 pounds while moving product to carts and staging areas.
  • Climb ladders up to 12–15 feet to retrieve items stored on higher shelves when required.
  • Work with a fully paper-based system for picking and packing (no RF scanners), following established procedures.
  • Perform visual checks of parts and items before they are sent to customers to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Participate in daily inventory activities and cycle counts after training, helping maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Pack orders by placing products into boxes, securing them, and taping them for shipment.
  • Use a simple computer system for inventory tasks after receiving training.
  • Work in a cross-trained capacity, performing a mix of picking and packing each day based on operational needs.
  • Assist with side duties such as cutting plastic trophies and contributing to general facility cleaning as part of the team.
  • Learn to operate additional warehouse equipment such as a cherry picker and forklift (Hilo) once hired directly and properly trained.
  • Maintain reliable attendance, especially on days following holidays, when the warehouse is at its busiest.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and warehouse policies, including proper use of ladders, lifting techniques, and equipment.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and understand pick and packing slips in English.
  • Capability to walk and stand for the full duration of the shift while moving a push cart around the facility.
  • Comfort with climbing ladders up to 12–15 feet to reach product on shelves when needed.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accurate picking, packing, and inventory activities.
  • Ability to consistently lift up to approximately 30 pounds throughout the shift.
  • Willingness to work with paper-based processes for picking, packing, and documentation.
  • Basic computer aptitude to learn and use a simple inventory system.
  • Reliability in attendance, particularly on days following holidays when workload is highest.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in warehouse picking, packing, or general labor is beneficial but not required.
  • Warehouse inventory, cycle counting, or shipping and receiving is a plus.
  • Interest in learning warehouse equipment such as cherry pickers and forklifts (Hilo) over time.
  • Comfort working in a quiet, structured environment with a strong focus on quality over speed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small, tight-knit team.
  • Steel-toed boots mentioned as a requirement in qualifications; however, current dress code allows tennis shoes or boots without steel toes.

Why Work Here?

Employees join a stable, family-oriented company with a long history of avoiding layoffs and a strong commitment to internal growth. The organization offers competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and short- and long-term disability, available shortly after becoming a direct hire. The paid time off program is generous and performance-driven, allowing team members to earn substantial PTO and incentive PTO each month, with the option to cash out unused hours. Staff enjoy seasonal bonuses, holiday bonuses, and thoughtful gestures such as Thanksgiving hams or turkeys. The culture emphasizes appreciation and camaraderie through potlucks, snack Fridays during busy seasons, and branded gear and Yeti cups after a year of service. Regular evaluations support career development, and employees are encouraged to pursue promotions and opportunities across multiple locations, creating a clear path for advancement.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, spacious, and well-lit warehouse that maintains a quiet and comfortable atmosphere. Team members work Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with very rare weekend work or requirements to stay past the end of the shift. Full-time hours are consistently available, and when work is completed early, volunteers may leave, while others can stay to maintain their full schedule. Employees receive a 30-minute unpaid lunch and two paid 10-minute breaks, with the possibility of extended breaks when workload permits. The warehouse uses paper-based processes rather than RF scanners, and a simple computer system supports inventory tasks. Personal radios are allowed during work, while cell phones must remain out of sight and may be stored in lockers if necessary. The team is small, friendly, and tight knit, fostering a supportive, family-style culture where colleagues readily help one another and leadership works alongside the team. The dress code is informal and focused on comfort: sweats, hoodies, jeans, shorts, and khakis are all acceptable as long as clothing is appropriate and adequately covering. Tennis shoes or boots are suitable footwear, and the environment encourages employees to feel relaxed and at ease while maintaining professionalism and safety.
