Middle School Science Teacher
Middle School Science Teacher
The Jackson Hole Community School will be adding a 6th-8th-grade Middle School division for
the 2026-2027 school year, offering families in the Jackson community an education option that
is grounded in our Middle School Purpose and Promise statement:
All middle school-aged children deserve a safe and inclusive school that helps
them become competent and confident individuals who feel a sense of agency,
are proud of who they are, are optimistic about their future, feel connected to
those around them, and are prepared to succeed in our ever-changing world.
A small, independent 6-12 school, JHCS “prepares students to succeed in college and life,
through challenging academics and excellence in teaching, in a community founded on personal
relationships, student initiative, and integrity” (JHCS Mission).
We are currently seeking an energetic, experienced, and team-oriented Middle School Science
Teacher for a full-time position that starts in August 2026. JHCS emphasizes the “community”
aspect of its culture and seeks candidates who are interested in committing to its vibrancy and
success. Faculty members are highly collaborative individuals who are eager to offer ideas,
engage in discussion, and focus on generating and improving the learner experience. We
expect that each employee will operate at a superior level and offer their services broadly to
serve our students and the school community at large.
This Middle School Science position involves teaching four sections (approximately 14 students
per section). The ideal candidate will be able to design and teach any of the following Science
courses:
- Physical Science: This course is designed to be highly relevant, connecting core
concepts of matter, forces, and energy to real-world technologies, engineering
challenges, and modern societal issues. Teaching core concepts in Chemistry (e.g.,
Matter and Reactions, Atomic Structure and Bonding) and Physics (e.g., Forces and
Motion, Energy and Waves), the ideal candidate is passionate about scientific inquiry
and will be able to explicitly link physical laws to everyday phenomena and current
events. This individual will be able to develop essential scientific skills so that students
move beyond memorization to application. These skills include the development and
mastery of experimental design, mathematical and computational thinking, data analysis
and interpretation, and scientific argumentation.
- Earth Science: This course is designed to be highly relevant and connected to real-world
issues, human civilization, and environmental sustainability. The ideal candidate will
connect geological, atmospheric, and astronomical concepts to modern challenges in
the areas of Natural Hazards, Climate and Weather, Astronomy and Exploration, and
Energy and Sustainability. This individual must be passionate about the intersection of
Earth systems and societal issues, leading hands-on, inquiry-based investigations and
fieldwork that serve to develop key scientific skills. Throughout the course, students will
actively learn to design and execute investigations, analyze and interpret data, model
and explain phenomena, and engage in scientific argumentation. The successful
candidate will leverage these inquiry-based methods to foster scientific literacy and
promote critical, evidence-based thinking in every student.
- Life Science: This course is designed to be highly relevant and connected to real-world
issues. The ideal candidate will leverage inquiry-based, hands-on learning to bring core
concepts to life, helping students understand how the biological world directly impacts
their lives and communities. The course covers fundamental concepts in cellular biology,
genetics, evolution, ecology, and human body systems. Students will explore these
topics through the lens of modern challenges and issues that will engage them as
scientific thinkers. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a love for science,
promoting scientific literacy, and maintaining a safe and engaging laboratory
environment where students connect theory to practice.
As a member of our Science department, our ideal candidate works collaboratively with
colleagues and aims to instill habits of critical thinking and communication that students will
draw upon during their middle and upper school years and beyond.
Other responsibilities of a full-time teacher include:
- Serving as a student advisor
- Communicating with colleagues, parents, and students in a timely and proactive manner
- Attending all faculty/staff meetings
- Attending occasional evening school events
- Taking part in school trips
- Offering student clubs or activities that cater to the interests and enjoyment of middle
school students
- Understanding that other school-related tasks, committee memberships, or duties as
requested by the Director may be assigned
Minimum requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with middle school students
- Ability to teach using a variety of pedagogical modalities
The Jackson Hole Community School does not discriminate in employment, recruitment,
admission, or the administration of any of its programs based on race, creed, national or ethnic
origin, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, or physical disability.
