Job Title: Shipping Clerk Job Description

The Shipping Clerk works in an office environment performing clerical duties and coordinating outbound shipments. This role focuses on processing all outbound freight, scheduling daily trucks, maintaining accurate shipping records and metrics, and ensuring efficient operations within the shipping department while supporting a high level of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Process all outbound shipments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Create and manage bills of lading (BOL) and ensure all documentation is complete and correct.
  • Label shipment items with PRO numbers and other required identifiers as needed.
  • Schedule daily trucks to meet shipping deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Maintain, file, and record prior days’ shipment documentation for audit and tracking purposes.
  • Track and maintain the department’s daily shipping metrics to support operational efficiency.
  • Screen all trucking personnel before granting access to the property, following established procedures.
  • Maintain clear communication with the order department to ensure customer satisfaction and resolve any shipping issues.
  • Perform data entry related to shipping and receiving activities in the computer systems.
  • Use SAP ERP and Microsoft Office applications to manage shipping information and reports.
  • Provide customer service related to shipping inquiries and delivery status.
  • Operate a forklift when needed to support shipping and receiving operations, if qualified and authorized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall warehouse and shipping operations.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Receiving Clerk.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Proficiency using a computer for daily work tasks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using SAP ERP or similar enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Hands-on experience with bills of lading (BOLs) and labeling shipments.
  • Consistent work history with at least 1 year of tenure at each previous job.
  • Strong data entry skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal departments and trucking personnel.
  • Basic customer service skills to handle shipping-related inquiries.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience operating a forklift in a shipping or warehouse environment.
  • Familiarity with shipping labels, PRO numbers, and common freight documentation.
  • Comfort working with shipping metrics and performance tracking.
  • Ability to organize and maintain filing systems for shipping records.
  • Strong time management skills to schedule trucks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in coordinating with multiple departments to support order fulfillment.

Work Environment

This position is primarily desk-based within a shipping office, involving frequent computer use for data entry, documentation, and communication. You work a regular day shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The environment includes interaction with trucking personnel and coordination with internal departments. SAP ERP and Microsoft Office are used daily to manage shipping information, while standard shipping tools and documentation such as BOLs and labels are part of routine tasks. The role is closely connected to the warehouse and shipping areas, and may occasionally require forklift operation if trained and authorized. Attire is typical for an office and warehouse-support setting, suitable for both desk work and brief visits to the shipping floor.

This is a Contract position based out of Ferndale, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
