Job Duties

• Schedule the outbound movement of loads from the terminal based in Jenison, Michigan and from contracted shippers in Michigan to 48 contiguous states utilizing established contacts within Grand Rapids Transport.
• Once outbound loads are set, set up an inbound return load with the result of returning to the terminal in Jenison, Michigan.
• Data entry all movements for drivers/equipment in Toro, our Transportation Management System (TMS) and send dispatch to driver once load info is set.
• Monitor the status of drivers/equipment utilizing Samsara, our telematics application, to ensure on-time pickups and deliveries and to monitor potential traffic/weather delays.
• Communicate with drivers via Google Chat/telephone about any weather/travel/load updates that arise. Written communication should be professional and clear.
• Manage incoming e-mails with your fellow Operations Team. Communication between team members is important to ensure double work is not being done and all messages are addressed.
• Answer incoming calls to the Dispatch Center. These may be from brokers, shippers, receivers, repair facilities, and drivers. We operate a multi-line phone system, and you may need to place someone on hold to answer another line. Being able to multi-task is beneficial. Operating with a courteous and professional manner is expected.
• Work with the Safety Department on Hours-of-Service questions in regard to planning load timing, driver log issues, safety concerns including accidents or the permitting of equipment for load planning.
• Teamwork is important! We are a small office, and transparent communication is key to being on the same page when a situation arises. We like to have everyone with a finger on the pulse to handle anything that may come in.
