What you'll do
As the Software Controls Engineer for Blue Arc™ (A Shyft Group Brand) based in Plymouth, MI, you will enjoy developing, implementing, and testing EV controls software for electric vehicle (EV) systems for Blue Arc's new Class 3, and Class 5 electric (EV) vehicles.
Your day-to-day will involve developing and diagnosing vehicle systems, updating, and maintaining vehicle software levels, overseeing release control of vehicle and subsystem software levels, and assisting with test and validation of the vehicle software, features, and functions. You will also partner cross-functionally with the Production and Service teams to resolve engineering change requests daily. This position involves work on projects subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Prior experience or familiarity with ITAR regulations is preferred.
Additionally, the work you accomplish in this role and as you grow with the company will be instrumental in shaping the future of how electric specialty vehicles are designed, built, and delivered.

What you'll do
- Develop, implement, and test EV controls software and hardware improvements
- Build and modify Simulink code to run on a real-time embedded target
- Install, test, and troubleshoot delivered customer systems (local and remote)
- Design improvements to existing and future EV software systems
- Participate in component selection and verification activities

What you need to be successful- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Two or more (2+ years') of automotive engineering development expertise
- Knowledge and insight with modelling for HVAC and Thermal Systems
- Knowledge and experience with Diagnostic Handling and Modelling
- Experience with modelling guidelines, MAAB and MISRA (preferred)
- Knowledge of electric vehicle systems and operations (Preferred)
- Experience with MATLAB and Simulink
- Versed in classical control theory, optimal controls, adaptive controls, model predictive controls, and state-space modeling (Preferred)
- Experience writing embedded applications on microcontrollers
- Ability to work with CAN and the J1939 protocol
- Skilled in writing code in C++ and Python (Preferred)
- Understanding of wire harnesses and automotive electrical systems (Preferred)
- Experience using HIL systems
- Capable of reading engineering drawings, prints, schematics, and diagrams
