General Summary:

To provide imaging/fluoroscopic support for surgical procedures requiring specific radiographic detail in the treatment provided to patients while in the perioperative environment.

Physical and Mental Effort:

Physical demands may include long hours standing or walking, lifting, bending, carrying heavy equipment, and performing repetitive tasks that require manual dexterity. The role may also involve bending or stretching. Mentally may include a high level of attention to detail, making quick decisions to address issues with equipment or processes, and multitasking effectively in a fast-paced environment. Problem-solving skills are essential to troubleshoot sterilization issues, and the ability to manage stress is important to maintain safety standards and efficiency under pressure.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

Fast-paced work environment based on elective and acute/urgent situations requiring surgical intervention. Probability of overtime.

Job Qualifications:

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent. Understanding of Medical Terminology.

• Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life (required), AART certification (preferred). Must achieve completion of an accredited Radiology program for operating a C-arm.

• Skills: operating imaging equipment such as X-ray and fluoroscopy to assist in diagnostic and procedural imaging during surgeries. This role requires expertise in patient positioning, radiation safety, and infection control in a sterile environment. The technologist must collaborate effectively with surgeons and other medical staff to ensure timely and accurate imaging, while maintaining high standards for patient care and comfort. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment are essential, along with required certifications and a commitment to ongoing education.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operation of C-arm fluoro x-ray.
• Oversee supplies needed for fluoro and sterilization.
• General maintenance and cleaning of the facility as needed.
• Transportation of patients.
• Positions patient and selects appropriate options to demonstrate cross-sectional anatomy of interest based on accepted X-Ray/fluoroscopy principles and the referring physician’s request.
• Assists in maintaining the fluoroscopic image database for reference (i.e., assures all fields are entered in a systematic way on the fluoro-machine).
• Knowledge of principles of radiation safety.
• Performs clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving patient records. (Bring up prior images for physician viewing, load MRI discs, save images in Life Image, etc.).
• During fluoroscopic downtime, assist in ancillary staff duties, which may include rooming patients, patient call backs, obtaining authorizations, answering phones, and any other duties delegated.
• Inspects lead aprons for tears or damage.
