Eng. is looking for motivated individuals with a background in construction to fill our full-time, seasonal (March - November) Construction Inspector roles. Selected candidates will act as on-site representatives of Eng. for municipal public works (roads, utilities, infrastructure) construction projects throughout Mid and West Michigan. This includes performing construction inspections to ensure compliance with codes, standards, plans and specifications.
A successful person in this role will excel in oral and written communication and maintain a working knowledge of construction operations. Permanent employment may be offered for applicants with other engineering and surveying skillsets if they can be utilized during non-construction (winter) months. This role is for a non-exempt, hourly employee with the potential for working overtime, paid at 1.5x their standard hourly rate.
Primary duties for this role include:
- Monitor construction activities to ensure accuracy and compliance with all codes, standards, plans and specifications.
- Perform field measurements for contractor payment and generating accurate depictions of completed construction work.
- Act as a liaison between coworkers, clients, contractors and other consultants to keep the project team up to date and coordinate as necessary.
- Generate detailed daily reports of construction activities and other required documentation.
- Oversee traffic control operations to ensure public safety and convenience.
- Review soil erosion and sedimentation control measures on a regular basis and generates necessary reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- 2 years of experience in general construction work
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and contract specifications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Flexible availability with frequent overtime and weekend work anticipated
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience in municipal construction (sewer, water, pathway, road)
- 2 years of college level construction/engineering courses
- Previous construction inspection experience a plus
