Job Description

The Carpenter Foreman oversees large commercial construction projects with a focus on steel stud framing, finish carpentry, and interior finishing. This role travels from project to project, leading onsite activities, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring high-quality installation of specialized wood products such as cabinets, doors, windows, and trim. The Carpenter Foreman interprets blueprints, manages layout, and maintains strict quality control to deliver precise and professional finishes on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day carpentry activities across multiple commercial job sites, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and according to project plans.
  • Perform and oversee steel stud framing, ensuring proper layout, alignment, and structural integrity in accordance with drawings and specifications.
  • Execute high-quality finish carpentry, including installation of cabinets, doors, windows, trim, baseboards, and crown molding.
  • Install specialized wood products and interior finishes to meet design, quality, and durability requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications to plan work, determine materials, and set accurate layouts.
  • Use tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions, ensure precise cuts, and maintain exact fit and finish.
  • Operate and oversee the safe use of power tools and carpentry equipment for framing, cutting, fastening, and finishing tasks.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors on site, including scheduling, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and resolving issues.
  • Maintain quality control by inspecting completed work, identifying deficiencies, and directing corrective actions as needed.
  • Support interior finishing activities, including acoustical ceilings and other commercial interior systems, to ensure a complete and cohesive finish.
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines by organizing work sequences, prioritizing tasks, and adjusting plans based on site conditions.
  • Promote and enforce safety practices on site, ensuring that all team members and subcontractors follow established safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders to provide updates on progress, challenges, and resource needs.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of experience in finish carpentry, including detailed trim work and interior finishing.
  • Hands-on experience with metal stud framing in commercial construction environments.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform layout for framing and finish carpentry work.
  • Strong finish carpentry skills, including installation of trim, baseboards, crown molding, and detailed woodwork.
  • Experience installing cabinets, doors, windows, and other specialized wood products.
  • Ability to use a tape measure accurately and consistently for precise measurements.
  • Skilled in the safe operation of power tools and carpentry equipment.
  • Experience working on commercial construction projects.
  • Capability to manage and coordinate subcontractors on active job sites.
  • Solid understanding of commercial interior finishing, including acoustical ceilings.
  • Reliable work history that reflects consistent tenure and commitment to projects.

Work Environment

This role is based on commercial building sites, primarily working Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work as project needs require. Typical workweeks range from approximately 40 to 50 hours. The position operates on a first shift schedule, generally starting between 6:00–7:00 a.m. and ending between 3:00–4:00 p.m., depending on the job site. Work takes place in active construction environments, including school and large commercial facilities, where you will regularly use power tools, hand tools, and measuring equipment. The Carpenter Foreman runs jobs on site, interacting closely with subcontractors and other trades in a fast-paced, production-oriented setting, following standard construction site attire and safety practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
