Job Title: Virtual School Psychologist
Location: Remote (Serving Detroit Public Schools Community District, Michigan)
Employment Type: Full-Time or Contract (Remote)
Service Population: K12 Students Across Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD)
Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Virtual School Psychologist to provide comprehensive psychological services to students across all grade levels (K12). This role supports the districts commitment to academic excellence, equity, and whole-child development, and is ideal for a tech-savvy school psychologist experienced in virtual service delivery.
The psychologist will play an integral part in the districts Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), collaborating with educators, families, and other professionals to address academic, emotional, and behavioral barriers to learningwhile working remotely.
Core Responsibilities Assessment & EvaluationConduct virtual psychoeducational evaluations to assess cognitive, academic, behavioral, emotional, and social functioning.
Administer, score, and interpret standardized tests using approved digital platforms (e.g., Q-Global, Q-Interactive).
Complete comprehensive Evaluation Team Reports (ETRs) in compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
Determine student eligibility for special education services and make data-driven recommendations.
Participate in IEP and multidisciplinary team meetings virtually.
Collaborate with general and special education staff, intervention specialists, and families to develop appropriate supports and accommodations.
Consult with school staff on behavior plans, instructional strategies, and interventions aligned with MTSS.
Provide short-term, solution-focused virtual counseling to students with IEPs or 504 Plans.
Support social-emotional learning (SEL) efforts and crisis intervention when needed.
Develop virtual behavior intervention plans and provide follow-up consultation.
Maintain accurate and timely records of services provided.
Ensure all documentation meets Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and IDEA requirements.
Protect student confidentiality and data privacy, adhering to FERPA, HIPAA, and district protocols.
Required:
Masters or Specialist Degree in School Psychology from a NASP-accredited program
Valid Michigan School Psychologist Certification through the Michigan Department of Education
Experience conducting psychoeducational evaluations and participating in IEP processes
Strong understanding of IDEA, Section 504, MTSS, and Michigan special education law
Proficiency with virtual platforms and digital testing tools
Strong written, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage caseload virtually with accountability
Preferred:
Prior experience serving urban or high-needs student populations
Experience with trauma-informed practices, SEL frameworks, or restorative approaches
Familiarity with culturally responsive assessment and intervention practices
Bilingual or multilingual skills (preferred, not required)
High-speed internet connection and secure home office setup
Familiarity with digital assessment tools and secure video conferencing platforms
District will provide access to approved platforms and support as needed
