Midwest Dermatology Institute (MDI) is a growing, physician-led dermatology practice with locations across Michigan, including Portage, Okemos, and Battle Creek. As we expand our west side operations, we are seeking a skilled Mohs Surgery Technician to join our team.

Position Summary

The Mohs Surgery Technician plays a critical role in the surgical workflow, supporting the dermatologic surgeon throughout Mohs micrographic surgery procedures. This position offers flexible scheduling and is ideal for a candidate who thrives in a high-quality surgical setting. The role may also serve as backup coverage across MDI locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and embed tissue specimens; perform cryostat sectioning and staining for intraoperative pathology
• Maintain accurate surgical and tissue mapping documentation
• Coordinate closely with clinical staff on scheduling, patient flow, and specimen tracking
• Provide cross-location coverage and backup support as needed

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a Mohs technician required; minimum 1–2 years preferred
• Proficiency in cryostat operation, tissue processing, H&E staining, and Mohs mapping
• Surgical technician certification (CST or equivalent) preferred
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Minimum 24 college-level science credits required: 6 credits in Biology, 6 credits in Chemistry, and 12 credits in a science discipline of the applicant's choosing
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to travel between MDI locations on an occasional basis
