Manufacturing Engineer Internship
WORK LOCATION: Ann Arbor, MI
SALARY RANGE: $20 - $26 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Summary As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of manufacturing engineering and contribute to the production processes of a company. This is a part-time, temporary position. Dates will be determined upon hire, but will not exceed 90 days. As part of our intern program, you will be assigned to a senior staff member and supervisor with specific goals and objectives to accomplish. Responsibilities The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.- Process Analysis and Improvement: You will have the chance to analyze existing manufacturing processes and identify areas for improvement. This may involve studying production methods, conducting time studies, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing solutions to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Production Support: You will assist the manufacturing engineering team in day-to-day operations on the production floor. This can include providing technical support, troubleshooting issues, and working closely with operators and technicians to ensure smooth production flow.
- Process Documentation: You will be responsible for creating and updating manufacturing instructions, work procedures, and process documentation. This includes documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flowcharts, and assembly instructions to ensure consistency and accuracy in production.
- Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement: You may be involved in lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects. This can include implementing lean principles, such as 5S, visual management, and waste reduction, to optimize manufacturing operations and enhance overall efficiency.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: You will gather and analyze production data, such as cycle times, scrap rates, and downtime. This data will be used to generate reports and metrics that provide insights into process performance and aid in decision-making.
- Equipment and Tooling Evaluation: You may assist in evaluating manufacturing equipment and tooling, assessing their capabilities, and making recommendations for upgrades or replacements to improve productivity and quality.
- Collaboration and Communication: You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and design engineering, to address manufacturing challenges and implement process improvements. Effective communication skills are essential for conveying ideas, discussing solutions, and coordinating efforts.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensuring a safe work environment and compliance with safety regulations is paramount. You will need to adhere to safety protocols, identify potential hazards, and contribute to the development and implementation of safety initiatives.

The following are a non-exhaustive list of qualifications for the position:
- Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree – Manufacturing Engineering or related
- Currently pursuing degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or another related field
- Basic knowledge of SolidWorks
- Ability to utilize MS Office
- Theoretical understanding of Lean, DFMA, and Six Sigma
- With direction able to work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment
- Define what needs to be accomplished, consistently complete tasks. Takes responsibility for resolving a problem, regardless of where it belongs
