Electrical Distribution System (EDS) Design Engineer (Novi)
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced EDS Components Design Responsible Engineer (DRE) to lead the design and development of electrical distribution system components for next-generation electric trucks and SUVs. This role involves full lifecycle ownership—from concept design through validation and production launch.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of EDS components including shields, troughs, grommets, connectors, terminals, and power distribution components.
- Manage the complete product lifecycle from concept (clean sheet) through virtual development, testing, validation, and manufacturing launch.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Finance teams to define technical specifications for sourcing and supplier selection.
- Develop and maintain a standardized library of EDS components aligned with global standards.
- Work closely with internal teams and suppliers to define, release, and validate EDS components.
- Conduct virtual and physical validation testing, including field testing activities.
- Ensure all designs comply with safety standards and U.S. regulatory requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and enhance system performance based on customer experience.
- Contribute to the design and setup of production facilities.
- Manage supplier deliverables to meet cost, quality, and timeline targets.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance, and growth-oriented team environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical wire harness and/or power distribution component design and release within the automotive industry.
- Strong expertise in EDS component design, validation, and product development lifecycle.
- Experience applying Six Sigma or similar methodologies for problem-solving and design optimization.
- Familiarity with CAE tools or relevant engineering analysis experience.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a growth mindset.
