Summary

SEAS is in search of a skilled and driven individual to fill the position of Grant Writer Specialist. You will support faculty and research scientists in the preparation, composition, and structuring of grant proposals essential for the establishment and maintenance of numerous successful, externally-funded research initiatives within SEAS.

This position will report to the SEAS Associate Dean for Research and Engagement (ADRE).

Remote and flexible work agreements will be made to support partial off-site work at a remote location. You will be required to come to SEAS (Dana building) in person on an as needed basis.

Term Appointment

Please note that this position is offered at a 50% Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) appointment and is a one-year term-limited position, with the possibility of extension depending on need, performance, and funding.

What You'll Do

  • Work with faculty to plan, write, edit, and organize grant proposals for the consideration of state and federal agencies, industry sponsors, and private foundations.
  • Assist faculty in crafting the proposal narrative as well as ancillary, required proposal documents including postdoctoral mentoring plans and data management plans.
  • Lead meetings with faculty investigators to better understand their needs.
  • Work with faculty investigators, in collaboration with the SEAS Research Administration to ensure adequate progress is made to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a grant proposal-tracking system to ensure timely submission of proposals and accurate records of proposals. Provide quarterly reports of progress, including a summary of grant proposals worked on and the level of assistance in each case.
  • Coordinate grant and proposal writing activities with the initiatives of SEAS leadership and follow priorities established by the SEAS ADRE.
  • Assist faculty in the planning of proposal graphics.
  • Understand and comply with all UM policies and procedures and ensure ethical, policy and process compliance.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education. Master's degree in environmental field preferred.
  • Experience in grant and proposal writing, research management, communications, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies.
  • Experience with editing and reviewing research documents and proposals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with shared digital workspace environments.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Three(3) year track record of successful proposal submission to award rate on federal, foundation, and corporate grants.
  • Knowledge of U-M grant proposal policies and guidelines.

Additional Information

Salary will be determined based on experience. The salary for this role will reflect the 50% FTE commitment and will be prorated accordingly based on the full-time salary range of $68,000-$75,000.

Work schedule is flexible with up to 20 hours per week. Hours per day may vary based on project needs.
