Under the direction and the supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, the Athletic Trainer serves as primary healthcare provider for assigned sports. This position requires the ability to think critically and make decisions regarding prevention, assessment, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Needs to possess the ability to collaborate closely with other healthcare providers, strength & conditioning, coaching staff, and sports performance personnel to optimize student-athlete health and performance is essential. This role of athletic trainer is critical to the success of Cornell athletics. Athletic trainers play a central role in ensuring that student-athletes are healthy, prepared, and able to perform at their highest level while prioritizing their overall well-being. The athletic trainers assist in the daily management and operation of the athletic training room, provide event coverage as assigned and will serve as a preceptor for athletic training students.

This role operates within a high-performance, interdisciplinary model and requires a proactive, collaborative approach to holistic athlete care.

This is an 11-month, full-time position requiring extensive hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and travel. The salary range for the 11-month position is $66,192 to $67,683 (12-month equivalent is $72,209 to $73,836); final offer will depend on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete health, safety, well-being, and long-term development.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining comprehensive medical records and documentation, including but not limited to, injury reporting, objective testing and data collection.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and implementation of best practices.
  • Ability to positively influence and guide student-athletes and staff and athletic training students.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • High energy, strong work ethic, and willingness to commit to the demands of a 11-month, full-time role.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training and 1 - 2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer and in good standing with the Board of Certification.
  • CPR and AED certification for the professional rescuer and emergency first aid.
  • Eligible for New York State Licensure.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and athlete management systems.
  • Experience collaborating with all health care professionals involved in the holistic care for student-athletes.
  • Experience collaborating with physical therapy and strength & conditioning regarding injury rehabilitation.
  • Must be familiar with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience working directly with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience as an athletic trainer with an NCAA Division I athletics program.
