Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role is essential in maintaining the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations, including accounting tasks and payroll support for a workforce of approximately 150 employees. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills and a commitment to delivering timely results while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. Responsibilities: - Input financial transactions into accounting systems on a daily and monthly basis with precision. - Monitor and reconcile purchase orders to ensure proper documentation and accuracy. - Handle general accounting duties such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and managing month-end and year-end closings. - Assist with payroll processes, including verifying timesheets, maintaining records, and addressing employee payroll inquiries. - Maintain organized and accurate files related to accounting and payroll activities. - Respond promptly to internal requests regarding accounting and payroll matters, ensuring effective communication. - Collaborate with team members to uphold the integrity of financial reporting. - Review and update financial documents, ensuring completeness and correctness. - Prepare reports for management and external auditors as required. - Participate in initiatives aimed at improving accounting and payroll procedures. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. - 1-3 years of experience in accounting, with exposure to payroll processes. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software; familiarity with payroll systems is advantageous. - Exceptional organizational and data entry skills. - High level of attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information responsibly. - Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively. - Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices. - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to ensure clear interactions.
