Programming varies by site and may include experiments, design challenges, coding fundamentals, robotics exploration, and applied math activities.
Instruction should be age-appropriate, safety-first, and aligned with school expectations and site policies. The instructor will deliver instruction across a typical 10-week cycle, with pacing adapted to student needs and site logistics.
What You Will Teach
Students will explore STEM concepts through inquiry and design-based activities. Lessons emphasize asking questions, testing ideas, analyzing results, and iterating on designs. Major Topics Can Include
- STEM inquiry routines and safety expectations
- Engineering design process (plan, build, test, revise, improve)
- Hands-on science exploration (properties of matter, forces/motion, energy, ecosystems—grade dependent)
- Data collection and interpretation (measurement, graphs, patterns, conclusions)
- Design challenges using accessible materials (bridges, towers, vehicles, simple machines)
- Coding and computational thinking (sequencing, loops, conditionals—platform dependent)
- Robotics exploration (beginner-level kits as available; sensor concepts intro)
- Applied math in STEM (estimation, ratios, geometry concepts, measurement)
- Collaboration and teamwork roles (planning, communication, reflection)
- STEM careers and real-world applications (age-appropriate exploration)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a 10-session STEM enrichment course with clear objectives and hands-on instruction
- Prepare and manage materials safely, including set-up and clean-up routines
- Facilitate interactive experiments and design challenges with structured guidance and student choice
- Differentiate instruction to support varying readiness levels and learning needs
- Maintain a safe, inclusive environment aligned to site policies and expectations
- Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde program contacts regarding attendance and session completion tracking
- Adapt pacing and activities as needed while maintaining intended learning outcomes
- Support students in completing a culminating artifact demonstrating applied STEM learning
Qualifications (Required)
- Minimum of 60 college credits (or Associate degree in progress/completed)
- Comfort teaching foundational STEM concepts through hands-on, inquiry-based activities
- Experience working with school-age students in structured settings (school, camp, after-school, tutoring, youth programs)
- Strong facilitation skills, clear communication, and comfort managing materials and procedures
- Reliable, punctual, and professional; able to follow school policies and program boundaries
- Ability to maintain safety-first routines and an organized, engaging classroom environment
