About the Position

We are seeking an experienced civil litigation attorney to join our insurance defense and general civil litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in defending insureds and carriers in a variety of civil matters and be capable of independently managing a diverse caseload from inception through resolution. This role involves collaboration with supportive partners committed to mentorship and professional development. Exceptional performance provides a path to shareholder.

Practice Areas Include

• Premises liability defense
• First and third-party auto (no-fault and liability)
• Fire loss investigation and subrogation
• Municipal defense and civil rights (§ 1983)
• Employment litigation
• Commercial and contract disputes
• Zoning and land use
• Real property litigation

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage a litigation caseload from case inception through resolution
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents
• Propound and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
• Take and defend depositions; prepare witnesses for deposition and trial testimony
• Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
• Provide strategic legal advice and regular case status reporting to clients and carriers
• Collaborate with partners on complex matters and litigation strategy
• Maintain strong client relationships and deliver excellent client service

Qualifications

Required:

• JD from an accredited law school
• Active Michigan bar license in good standing
• Minimum of 4 years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense
• Federal court admission (or eligibility to obtain)
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage a caseload
• Strong command of Michigan Court Rules, Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
• Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical skills
• Effective oral advocacy and negotiation skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines

Preferred:

• Trial or arbitration experience
• Familiarity with insurance litigation guidelines and billing protocols
