Position Summary
The Sales Manager – Powder Coating is responsible for leading all sales activities within their assigned territory or market segment. This role requires a strong understanding of powder coating processes, equipment, and materials to effectively consult with clients, develop custom solutions, and achieve aggressive sales targets. The successful candidate will be a technical expert with proven sales leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales Strategy and Execution: Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve annual, quarterly, and monthly revenue and profitability goals for powder coating services/products.
- Business Development: Actively prospect, qualify, and secure new high-value accounts by targeting manufacturers, OEMs, and industrial clients in need of superior finishing solutions.
- Technical Consultation and Solution Selling: Serve as the primary technical resource for clients, conducting site visits to assess coating needs, troubleshooting technical challenges, and proposing tailored powder coating specifications (e.g., material type, color, process, quality checks).
- Account Management: Manage and grow relationships with existing key accounts, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction, retention, and loyalty through excellent service and proactive support.
- Quoting and Negotiation: Prepare detailed technical proposals, cost calculations, and quotes, negotiate contract terms, and close sales agreements.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and industry advancements in powder coating technology to identify new business opportunities and inform company strategy.
Desired Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive sales experience, with at least 2 years specifically in the powder coating, industrial paint, or chemical additives industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep, working knowledge of the powder coating process, including pre-treatment, application equipment (e.g., electrostatic spray guns), oven curing, and quality testing standards (e.g., adhesion, thickness, corrosion resistance).
- Sales Acumen: Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales quotas and successfully managing a large, multi-state or regional territory.
- Travel: Ability to travel up to 50% of the time to client sites and industry trade shows.
- Tools: Proficiency with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing a sales team or mentoring junior sales staff.
- Prior experience with specific coating types such as epoxy, polyester, or polyurethane, or with related finishing equipment.
