In the R&D group, we are developing the next generation automotive coatings that are sustainable, have low carbon footprint, and enables autonomous driving vehicles. This position is in the Automotive Coatings product development group, focusing on innovations supporting the current and future Automotive OEM market. You should be a creative strategic thinker, have an entrepreneurial spirit and are ready to work with state-of-the-art application tools for new process development. In this role, you will be focused on developing new process for alternative automotive OEM coatings. This new process includes, but not limited to, injection molding of plastics and reaction injection molding (RIM) of polyurethane. You will also be expected to learn and contribute to the formulation development of RIM coatings.

What You'll Do:

• Leveraging your education and experience in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science & Engineering, you will independently develop process technology for injection molding of thermoplastic polymers (e.g., polypropylene and polycarbonate) and reactive injection molding of polyurethane and skillfully combine these two technologies to develop OEM coatings.
• You are also expected to learn and contribute to coating formulation, application and testing.
• Being a results-oriented professional, you will communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals including customers and various stakeholders.
• Working with a diverse team, you will collaborate with the BASF global technical community in Germany, China and Mexico.

If you...

• Have a B.S. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science & engineering with at least 1-2 years of experience in at least one of the following fields: automotive coatings, injection molding, reactive injection molding
• Basic understanding of polymer structure-property relationship
• Have a positive and teamworking spirit
• Preferably have experience with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments to solve scientific problems
