Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP)

The Speech-Language Pathologist will implement speech and language services to meet the needs of individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan and specifically provide assessment and intervention for individuals with Down syndrome. As a member of the therapy team, the SLP will provide specialized interventions and/or modifications to people with Down syndrome to support the acquisition of skills. In addition to providing direct therapy, the SLP will utilize coaching and consulting to support families and caregivers; and collect and report data on individual and group outcomes. The SLP will also implement therapeutic group sessions for individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan, in collaboration with other therapists. The SLP will also implement innovative teletherapy programming.Organization:

Speech-Language Pathologist responsibilities include:
- Assess and evaluate the individuals' communication (including alternative and augmentative communication strategies and devices as needed), pragmatic language, and skills for the purpose of identifying challenges interfering with daily life in the home and community.
- Provide families guidance in facilitating the independence of their children or adults in the home and community.
- Complete documentation for all individuals receiving speech-language therapy services in accordance with deadlines.
- Utilize a wide repertoire of intervention methods and select based on the unique needs and strengths of each individual and family.
- Consider both immediate needs of individual and long-term needs, as related to preparation for adulthood.
- Demonstrate evidence-based practice using research to support selected intervention strategies and collection of routine data as evidence of effectiveness of current interventions.
- Refer families who require evaluation or intervention beyond the scope of DSI’s therapy program to specialists in the community, especially with medical needs or specialized intervention.
- Developing and implementing innovative programming for both individuals and groups.
- Developing and providing educational presentations to caregivers and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrates advanced understanding of speech-language therapy principles and instruction strategies as applied to children through adults with developmental disabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) including software solutions such as TouchChat, Proloquo2Go, and LAMP.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite products.
- Proficient and/or willing to acquire teletherapy-related skills including but not limited to use of hardware, software, and/or other online materials.
- Ability to work with individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan.
- Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Hold Certification of Clinical Competence in the field of Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Hold (or be eligible to apply for) state licensure to provide speech-language services to DSI constituents. This includes but is not limited to licensure in Kansas and Missouri.
- Maintain necessary certifications and licensures to provide speech-language services to DSI constituents.
- Minimum of two years of experience with individuals with developmental disabilities in a school or community setting.
- Must possess exemplary written and communication skills and an ability to meet and interact with individuals on all levels.
- Available to work a consistent full-time schedule that includes evenings (as late as 7pm on some weekdays), intermittent weekends for therapeutic offerings and/or caregiver education.
