EHS Compliance Specialist
In this position, you will ensure that our organization complies with required safety & environmental regulations, laws, and policies. The Environmental, Health and Safety Compliance Specialist's responsibilities include delivering employee training, evaluating compliance activities, and acting as a liaison between the organization and external agencies.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
- Develop and Maintain EHS programs that encompasses, applicable local, state, federal regulations relevant to the organization’s operations.
- Perform Job Hazard Analysis to identify potential (safety and environmental) hazards.
- Consult with internal team and external sources on hazard mitigation, PPE requirements, processes that do not comply and best practices.
- Ensure staff are appropriately trained on the proper use of equipment, safety hazards, and environmental aspects of business
- Act as a liaison between the organization and various external agencies (examples include but are not limited to workers comp insurance, OSHA)
- Investigate safety & environmental related accidents, incidents and near misses and property damage.
- Write incident reports based on the investigations and work with the team on corrective actions.
- Maintain 300 Log & 301 forms
- Report to Workers Comp as needed
- Work with management to determine available modified or alternate work options for employees who cannot perform their regular job duties due to workplace injury or illness.
- Record keeping and reporting for safety and environmental reporting regulations. (examples include but are not limited to CDP Reporting, Sara II, Toxic Release Inventory)
- Monitor and manage waste disposal, recycling, and pollution control initiatives.
- Conduct internal audits to identify, measure, and evaluate the effectiveness of EHS program.
- Oversee Safety Committee to reduce incidents.
- Develop compliance related preventative maintenance measures and ensure they are performed in a timely manner.
- Actively participate in the external Audits concerning Safety and Environmental Compliance.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and drills
- Submit recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Qualifications:
- Self-motivated, reliable with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines
- OSHA Certification, desired (OSHA 10, OSHA 30, MTI L1 / L2)
- Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in high-pressure situations
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment
- Understanding of Export Control (EAR/ ITAR) regulations, desired
- Willing to learn new skills and concepts as business needs evolve
- Effective Time management and organizational skills
- Possess fundamental written and verbal communication skills.
- Effectively communicate with team members and external stakeholders
- Be fluent (written and verbal) in the English language.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent problem-solving skills, including experience preparing documents such as 8D's
- Understanding of ISO 14001
- Experience with Internal Auditing (IATF16949, AS9100 and/or ISO14001 Internal Auditor certification, desired)
- Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing principles
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- CPR / First Aid / AED Certified (or willing to obtain)
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA guidelines, and workers' compensation processes
- Ability to travel between SMI facilities - Must possess a valid driver’s license
- A minimum of 2 years of related work experience is preferred
Work Environment:
Climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a moderate noise level. In this position, you are working a full-time schedule, must be able to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
Work Location: In person (Ability to travel between SMI facilities)

Employment Criteria:
This position includes access or potential access to ITAR technical data. Therefore, candidates will need to qualify as a US Person, which is defined as a US Citizen, a Permanent Resident who does not work for a foreign company/foreign government/foreign governmental agency or organization, or a political asylee in compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
