Mainstreet Ventures Restaurant Group in Ann Arbor, Michigan – a growing, dynamic organization - is looking for an on-site senior staff accountant with restaurant industry experience.

Senior Accountant

Working closely with the controller and CFO, this will be a key member of our Finance team with a tremendous opportunity to grow. We are seeking an extraordinary accounting professional for a high-energy, fast-paced environment with a sharp eye for detail, commitment to timeliness and accuracy, deep experience with A/R, A/P, G/L and overall strong GAAP accounting knowledge (particularly in the restaurant industry), high-level organizational & communication skills, proficiency with automated accounting tools (including Microsoft Office) and most importantly deep curiosity and a passion to excel and continually improve.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all deliverables for the role
• Manage and process accounts payable – ensure approvals, recording correct journal entries and working with the accounting systems
• Assist with accounts receivable as necessary
• Organize physical and electronic files leveraging automated tools – ensuring accurate recordkeeping and access to information
• Maintain and ensure accuracy of period end workbooks for all units
• Post period-end adjusting journal entries
• Proactively monitor, investigate, and resolve discrepancies and reconciling items
• Contribute to the identification and implementation of process enhancements and best practices
• Prepare various financial reports
• Undertake additional accounting responsibilities as necessitated to bolster the accounting team
• Assist month-end and year-end closures
• Assist with inter-company accounting as necessary
• Help prepare documents for audits
• Improve existing processes by leveraging expertise
• Back up controller for various functions
• Interacting with internal and external stakeholders as necessary

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• A collaborative team player adaptable to learning within a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Experience working as an accountant in the restaurant industry – preferably with multiple units
• Deep knowledge of accounts payable processes and connections between balance sheet and P&L
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize diverse tasks and responsibilities
• Ability to work with external vendors resolving issues as necessary
• Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Use of automated accounting tools
• Deep desire to learn and develop new skills
• Commitment to excellence and teamwork
• 5+ years of accounting experience (minimum of 3 years in the restaurant industry)
