Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair, and maintain precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Operate a variety of machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment.
• Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to produce precise components.
• Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and optical comparators.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with existing tooling to improve manufacturing processes.
• Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool construction and repair.
• Collaborate with engineers and production staff to optimize tool design and functionality.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proven experience in tool and die making, mold making, or precision machining.
• Proficiency in interpreting complex blueprints, schematics, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Skilled in operating a variety of conventional and CNC machine tools (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders, EDM).
• Strong understanding of metallurgy, various tool steels, and heat treatment processes.
• Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, CMM).
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or an equivalent technical degree/certification.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam).
• Experience operating and programming CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) equipment.
• Specialized experience with advanced machining processes such as EDM or Wire EDM.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Previous experience mentoring or training junior machinists/toolmakers.
