Job Summary

The SSU Supervisor provides direct oversight and support to Substance Use Stabilization Unit staff while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, recovery-oriented services to adults experiencing a substance use disorder (SUD) crisis. The Supervisor promotes a welcoming, person-centered environment, supports staff development, monitors service delivery, and assists with maintaining continuous operations of the unit.

Essential Functions

  • Foster a warm, welcoming, and recovery-oriented environment for persons served.
  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to SSU staff during assigned shifts, ensuring adherence to agency policies, procedures, and program standards.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide ongoing coaching, support, and corrective feedback as needed.
  • Assist with staff orientation, training, and professional development.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation and recordkeeping by staff.
  • Conduct routine chart audits and participate in case reviews to ensure quality service delivery and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support daily operations of the SSU, including coordination of admissions, discharges, and service delivery.
  • Assist in developing staff schedules and coordinate shift coverage to ensure uninterrupted services.
  • Provide leadership during crisis situations and support staff in implementing de-escalation and intervention strategies.
  • Ensure persons served receive short-term, intensive stabilization services and are connected to appropriate community resources.
  • Collaborate with treatment providers, healthcare professionals, and community partners to support continuity of care.
  • Assist with discharge planning and facilitate referrals to outpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and other recovery support services.
  • Participate in team meetings and communicate program updates, concerns, and recommendations to management.
  • Monitor program activities and report operational issues, service trends, and client concerns to the Program Manager.
  • Promote compliance with safety procedures, communicable disease prevention protocols, and agency standards.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide operational support as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human service-related field (social work, psychology, counseling, family services, sociology, criminal justice) or a bachelor's degree in nursing (RN). Master’s degree in human services preferred

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

  • State of Michigan Licenses, certification and/or registrations in appropriate behavioral health field or For EMT’s and Paramedics, licensure required

or

  • For Peer Recovery Coaches, certified peer recovery coach certificate

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in providing services to Individual’s with Substance Use Disorders, adults with Mental Illness, children with Serious Emotional Disturbance or adults and/or children with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. Preference for experience in providing services in the public sector.

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of leadership experience working within a managed care setting
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a managerial or supervisory position in the public or private sector
  • Experience in working with electronic health records
  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience with data entry
  • Experience in crisis de-escalation
  • Experience working with adults with substance use disorder or intellectual

(Travel required, physical requirements, etc.):

  • Must have available means of transportation to and from OCHN.
  • Must be available for meetings and events which may occur outside of standard office hours.
  • Work performed primarily in a crisis center environment.
