This role is based on-site at one of their locations: Traverse City, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Gaylord
Our client, a well-established, growing, 140+ employee, multi-location organization, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to lead the company's people strategy and oversee all aspects of Human Resources across the business.
This executive leadership role partners closely with ownership and senior leadership to align talent strategy with business objectives while fostering a high-performing, engaged, and values-driven culture. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor who builds strong relationships throughout the organization and drives organizational effectiveness through people, processes, and leadership development.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Human Resources Leadership
- Lead the overall HR function, including strategy, operations, and team development
- Partner with executive leadership on organizational planning, workforce strategy, and business growth initiatives
- Develop scalable HR systems, policies, and best practices that support a growing organization
- Build strong partnerships with leaders across multiple locations and departments
Organizational Development & Leadership
- Drive leadership development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives
- Support organizational design, workforce planning, and change management efforts
- Coach leaders on performance, communication, accountability, and team effectiveness
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Lead employee relations, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution
- Oversee company-wide performance management and employee development programs
- Partner with leaders on coaching, corrective action, and leadership best practices
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and accountable work environment
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Oversee recruiting strategy and hiring processes across multiple business functions
- Manage external recruiting partnerships and internal talent acquisition initiatives
- Support succession planning and long-term workforce development
- Monitor hiring metrics, labor trends, and staffing effectiveness
Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations
- Lead compensation planning, salary benchmarking, and total rewards strategy
- Oversee benefits administration, vendor relationships, and annual renewals
- Ensure HRIS optimization, reporting accuracy, and employee data integrity
- Partner with payroll and finance teams to support accurate employee administration
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations
- Maintain HR policies, employee handbook, and employment practices
- Advise leadership on employment law, investigations, documentation, and workplace risk management
- Support workplace safety and regulatory compliance initiatives
What We're Looking For
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field
- 7–10+ years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience
- Experience supporting multi-location operations, manufacturing, distribution, retail, or other operational environments strongly preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, organizational development, compensation, benefits, performance management, and workforce planning
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred
