Township Superintendent

Texas Township is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Superintendent.

Position Overview

The Township Superintendent serves as the chief administrative officer of the Township and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of all township operations. Reporting directly to the Township Board, the Superintendent implements Board policies, oversees department operations, manages township finances, and ensures compliance with Michigan statutes and applicable laws.

This position requires a collaborative, experienced municipal leader who can effectively work with an elected board, employees, labor unions, residents, and external governmental partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage daily township operations in accordance with Township Board policies and Michigan law.
• Serve as the primary advisor to the Township Board on administrative, financial, and operational matters.
• Supervise and evaluate department heads and administrative staff.
• Prepare and administer the annual budget; monitor revenues and expenditures; ensure sound fiscal management.
• Assist with labor relations, collective bargaining, and contract administration in coordination with HR Manager and legal counsel.
• Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations affecting township operations.
• Represent the Township in intergovernmental matters and community engagements.
• Oversee contracts, capital projects, and major initiatives approved by the Board.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible municipal or public-sector leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with an elected governing body.
• Knowledge of Michigan township operations, budgeting, and labor relations.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
