Facilities Engineer – Facilities / Capital Projects / Vendor Management

Location: Auburn Hills, MI (Onsite)
Job Type: Long term contract
Pay Rate: $40/hour on W2

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Engineer to support facilities operations, vendor management, capital improvement projects, and facility infrastructure initiatives across distribution facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience managing contractors and service providers, reviewing proposals and estimates, tracking budgets, coordinating facility projects, and supporting day-to-day facility operations.

This position will work closely with Facilities, Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Procurement, Finance, contractors, and service providers to ensure facility services and projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage facility service contracts and vendor relationships, including maintenance, janitorial, landscaping, snow removal, MHE rentals, calibration, uniform services, and other facility-related services.
  • Review contractor proposals, bids, estimates, scopes of work, and pricing for accuracy, completeness, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Solicit and evaluate competitive bids and support vendor selection and contract renewals.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with established service levels and requirements.
  • Coordinate regional construction contractors, specialty contractors, and facility service providers.
  • Develop scopes of work and support facility renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and building improvement projects.
  • Coordinate project schedules, contractors, meetings, budgets, and project closeout activities.
  • Create and manage purchase requisitions and service requests using SAP/PentaSAP .
  • Track operating expenses and capital expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Review contractor invoices and validate completed work before payment approval.
  • Support annual budget forecasting, accrual reporting, and expense planning.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining facility service quality and operational effectiveness.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for facility-related operational issues and service requests.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and facility service interruptions.
  • Support maintenance and reliability initiatives to improve facility performance.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Corporate Facilities teams.
  • Support OSHA compliance, facility audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure contractors follow applicable safety policies and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or a related field , or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in facilities management, construction management, project management, contractor administration, or a related field.
  • Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered with PMP certification and strong relevant project management experience.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, and service contracts .
  • Experience reviewing contractor proposals, estimates, bids, and scopes of work .
  • Understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and expense tracking .
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel .
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, vendors, and priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP or PentaSAP procurement systems.
  • Experience in warehouse, distribution center, manufacturing, automotive, or logistics environments .
  • Knowledge of facility infrastructure and building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection .
  • Experience managing CAPEX budgets and capital improvement projects .
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management experience.
  • Experience with contractor negotiations, bid packages, and vendor performance management.
  • Experience supporting distribution center, warehouse, or large-scale industrial facility operations.
