Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Automation & Controls

Role Overview

Location: Battle Creek, MI

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Picture your first hour on shift: you review preventive maintenance tickets, then a production line calls—an automated cell has gone down. You arrive with safety top-of-mind, lock out what you must, and safely troubleshoot a live electrical panel to isolate the fault. An Allen-Bradley ControlLogix tweak and a quick PanelView update later, the line is running. Before lunch, you jump into a Kaizen huddle, and later in the day, you’re performing PMs on servo-driven equipment and inspecting pneumatics and hydraulics to keep uptime high.

What You’ll Do

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on manufacturing equipment.
• Execute preventive maintenance on production assets to maximize reliability.
• Safely troubleshoot live electrical panels and high-voltage systems (120/208/240/480 VAC).
• Contribute to problem-solving groups, Kaizens, and broader lean manufacturing initiatives; support maintenance KPIs.
• Continuously learn processes including thermal forming, adhesive and molding operations, Isocyanate foam, high-pressure water cutting, and assembly.
• Operate Powered Industrial Trucks, aerial lifts, and cranes as needed.
• Edit and modify programs on programmable devices (Allen-Bradley platforms such as SLC-500, ControlLogix, PanelView, and PanelView Plus).

What You Bring

• 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, including 3+ years supporting automated machinery.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read machine drawings and control schematics.
• Hands-on experience with machining tools, powered hand tools, and standard maintenance equipment.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed and support any production shift; overtime beyond 40 hours is an essential function of this role.
• Plus factors: robotic systems experience (Fanuc, Motoman, ABB), an electrical journeyman card, TPM exposure, and use of smart cameras (Keyence, Cognex, Banner).
