Math & STEM Teacher

Copper Island Academy is seeking a full-time Middle/High School Math & STEM Teacher to join our outstanding educational team.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a student-centered Middle/High School Math & STEM Teacher to join our dedicated team. This teacher will play a key role in delivering core math instruction (Algebra I, Geometry, and/or Algebra II) while also shaping and facilitating engaging STEM Pathway electives. The ideal candidate will be innovative, collaborative, and eager to bring math and STEM to life through real-world application, hands-on learning, and career-connected experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Mathematics & STEM Instruction:

• Design and deliver engaging, differentiated math and STEM lessons aligned to Michigan standards and CIA’s instructional approach.
• Integrate Finnish-inspired educational strategies that promote mastery, independence, and a calm, joyful learning environment.
• Make math meaningful through project-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and practical applications.

Promote Student Independence & Critical Thinking:

• Guide students in developing problem-solving, reasoning, and collaborative skills.
• Create structures for self-directed inquiry and reflection within math and STEM content areas.

Hands-On, Real-World Learning:

• Incorporate labs, design challenges, technology tools, and community-based learning experiences.
• Connect academic concepts to careers in STEM fields through guest speakers, workplace visits, and real-world challenges.

Assessment & Feedback:

• Use formative and summative assessments to monitor growth and adjust instruction.
• Provide students with constructive, timely feedback to guide learning and build confidence.

Collaboration & Professional Growth:

• Work closely with colleagues to create cross-curricular experiences and support the school’s shared vision.
• Engage in continuous professional learning focused on student engagement, Finnish education methods, and Math and STEM teaching practices.

Family & Community Engagement:

• Build strong relationships with students and families to support academic and personal growth.
• Partner with community organizations and professionals to enrich the Math and STEM programs and expand learning opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate math endorsement(s).
• Experience teaching at the middle and/or high school level, ideally in both math and project-based STEM contexts.
• Enthusiasm for hands-on learning and nontraditional teaching approaches.
• Familiarity with or interest in Finnish education principles.
