Education and/or Experience:

Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology. Certificate of Clinical Competency or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship Year and a Michigan license through LARA.

Job Summary:

The School Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating students with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. This role involves developing individualized therapy plans, providing direct services to students, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and other staff to support student progress. The SLP will also monitor and document students' progress, provide guidance to educators on modifying classroom practices, and offer referrals for additional services when necessary. A strong commitment to fostering effective communication skills in students and supporting their academic success is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experience using a variety of appropriate formal and informal tools to assess students’ communication skills (e.g., articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.).
  • Experience participating in the multidisciplinary educational team and education planning process to identify communication disorders, determine eligibility and develop service recommendations.
  • Experience providing direct services, push-in services, consultative services and instruction for students with significant communication and learning disorders, including autism.
  • Experience using a variety of data collection tools to evaluate the progress and performance of students.
  • Experience with TEACCH, applied behavior analysis, PECS, Core Vocabulary and social skills instruction.
  • Knowledge of general education curriculum and knowledge of how to accommodate the general education curriculum for special education students.
  • Experience using a broad range of strategies and classroom structures appropriately aligned to students’ learning targets.
  • Experience with augmentative communication devices.
  • Experience conducting Functional Analysis of Behavior and writing Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Strong collaboration skills required.
  • Data collection and progress monitoring required.
  • Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the Human Resource office before expiration date of said document(s).
  • Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
