We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative School Psychologist to join our K12 educational team. This on-site, full-time position is structured around a 35-hour workweek and intentionally includes time for paperwork, planning, and indirect services . Candidates will support students, staff, and families through comprehensive assessment, consultation, and intervention services while promoting safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.
Applicants should be knowledgeable inor willing to develop competency in Michigan-specific special education law (MARSE) , and demonstrate experience or interest in best practices for evaluating English Language Learners (ELLs) . Effective collaboration, family engagement, and team-based problem solving are critical elements of this role.
ResponsibilitiesPsychoeducational Assessment & Evaluation
Conduct comprehensive evaluations in accordance with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) , IDEA, and district policies.
Administer and interpret cognitive, academic, behavioral, and social-emotional assessments.
Prepare legally compliant and informative Evaluation Review Reports (ERRs) and Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) statements.
Participate in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams (METs), provide eligibility determinations, and contribute to IEP development.
Implement culturally responsive and non-biased evaluation practices, particularly for English Language Learner (ELL) students.
Intervention & Support
Collaborate with school staff to implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) processes.
Help develop and monitor behavioral intervention plans (BIPs), functional behavior assessments (FBAs), and evidence-based academic supports.
Provide short-term counseling, crisis response, and skill-building sessions as needed.
Assist with threat assessments, risk screenings, and behavior/emotional safety planning.
Consultation & Collaboration
Serve as a thought partner to teachers, intervention specialists, administrators, and families to address barriers to learning.
Facilitate staff understanding of developmental milestones, mental health issues, trauma-informed care, and disability awareness.
Model and promote strategies for engagement and equity in school-wide supports, especially for underserved populations.
Planning, Documentation, & Indirect Services
Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and student progress.
Allocate dedicated time each week for planning, paperwork, and indirect service delivery, ensuring sustainable workload management.
Support school improvement teams with data analysis, systems planning, and program evaluation.
Required:
Master's, Specialist, or Doctoral degree in School Psychology from a NASP-approved program.
Hold or be willing to obtain a valid Michigan School Psychologist license (issued by the Michigan Department of Education).
Eligible for (or currently hold) temporary or permanent certification to practice school psychology in Michigan.
Preferred:
Familiarity with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related procedures.
Experience or coursework in evaluating English Language Learner (ELL) students, including knowledge of second language acquisition and cultural variables.
Knowledge of specific strategies to promote engagement with families , culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and interdisciplinary teams.
Previous school-based experience conducting evaluations and supporting students in a K12 setting.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
Strong time management and organizational abilities.
Culturally responsive and inclusive mindset.
Familiarity with tools such as BASC-3, WISC-V, KTEA-3, DIBELS, and online platforms (e.g., Illuminate, SEAS, IEP software).
Position is onsite , based in one or more schools within the district.
Standard 35-hour workweek, aligned with school hours and calendar.
Travel between buildings may be required, depending on caseload.
