Civil Superintendent

Major Contracting Group is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Civil Superintendent to lead field operations on complex civil construction projects throughout the Detroit area.

As a trusted union contractor with a workforce of over 350 skilled tradespeople, we self-perform critical scopes on underground utility, road, and restoration projects for public and private clients. We’re growing and seeking a Superintendent who can take ownership of project execution, drive productivity, and lead with integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct all field activities on heavy civil construction projects including underground utilities, paving, and site work

• Supervise and coordinate union labor crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators

• Enforce safety protocols and ensure full compliance with all jobsite safety requirements

• Coordinate materials, inspections, and logistics to maintain schedule and budget

• Communicate effectively with project managers, inspectors, and engineers to resolve field issues

• Maintain detailed daily reports and field documentation

• Lead by example and foster a culture of accountability and teamwork on site

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in civil construction, including 5+ years in a supervisory role

• Deep knowledge of underground utilities, roadway construction, and restoration

• Proven ability to manage large crews, self-perform scopes, and fast-paced schedules

• Strong understanding of safety requirements and compliance standards

• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills

• Experience with union labor is a plus

• CDL or equipment operation background a bonus
