HLM Engineer

The HLM Design and Release Engineer plays a crucial role in the design, development, validation, release, and implementation of handles, locks, and mechanisms into vehicle closures such as hoods/frunks, side doors, tailgates, liftgates, and decklids. You will drive design improvements to enhance quality and optimize cost and weight throughout development and the production life cycle. Additionally, you will lead suppliers and guide the design of HLM components to meet compliance requirements, SDS Design Rules, and regulatory standards, while managing attributes such as package design feasibility, NVH, water management, craftsmanship, crash safety, and manufacturing assembly requirements at assembly plants.
Responsibilities

Design, develop, validate, release, and implement handles, locks, and mechanisms into vehicle closures.

Drive design improvements to enhance quality and optimize cost/weight.

Lead suppliers and guide the design of HLM components to meet compliance requirements.

Manage attributes including package design feasibility, NVH, water management, craftsmanship, crash safety, and manufacturing assembly requirements.
Essential Skills
-
Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field.
-
Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in the design, development, or launch of automotive mechanisms.

Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA and Teamcenter, with familiarity in CAE tools and software.

Ability to manage multiple issues effectively and efficiently.

Initiative and prioritization skills.
-
Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
-
Experience in design and release of latching mechanisms, closure systems, or related mechanism applications.

Software literacy and mechatronics experience.

Strong understanding of statistical analysis.

8D and 5Why corrective action and problem-solving skills.

Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, and SCCAF processes.

Knowledge of the Phased PPAP process.

Detailed understanding of materials, manufacturing technologies, and GDT.

Ability to work in a fluid environment where vehicle targets, size, appearance, and manufacturing location are not always known.

Ability to solve complex system issues with limited standardization.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Adaptability to various applications and issues as required.
Work Environment
The work environment involves using CAD software such as CATIA and Teamcenter, requiring proficiency in CAE tools and MS Office applications. You will work in a dynamic setting where vehicle targets and manufacturing locations may vary. The role may require domestic and international travel, and the ability to adapt to fluid conditions is essential.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
