We are looking for an experienced Property Accountant to manage the financial operations of a diverse portfolio of retail and big-box properties in Birmingham, Michigan. This role involves overseeing budgets, financial reporting, and compliance while ensuring the properties are maintained to the highest standards. Responsibilities:• Handle the financial management of a national portfolio of retail and big-box properties, ensuring accuracy in accounting and reporting.
• Oversee the preparation and management of annual operating budgets and monthly financial reports.
• Conduct regular site visits to properties nationwide (approximately 25% travel) to ensure compliance and coordinate with tenants.
• Manage vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts and overseeing service agreements.
• Monitor and report on capital improvement projects, ensuring budgets and timelines are adhered to.
• Ensure all properties comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
• Collaborate with teams to facilitate large-scale renovations and property buildouts from planning through completion.
• Maintain and update property management software to track financial and operational data.
• Provide expertise in facilities management, including maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
• Support collections and leasing efforts, ensuring seamless tenant relations.• Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial property accounting or management, particularly with retail or big-box properties.
• Strong knowledge of facilities management and maintenance operations.
• Proven ability to oversee large-scale capital improvement and renovation projects.
• Excellent communication skills to build and maintain relationships with tenants, vendors, and internal teams.
• Proficiency in property management software, such as Yardi, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Real Estate, or a related field is preferred.
• Willingness to travel nationwide up to 25% for property inspections and tenant coordination.
• Familiarity with compliance standards related to safety and environmental regulations.
