Director of Business Development (EDC) Open Until Filled

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and conducting outreach to Sault Tribe Member Businesses and be a Member Service Provider, will market and advocate for Sault Tribe Businesses and facilitate training on the benefits for Tribal Member businesses to return to Tribal Trust Land within the Tribe's service areas. The Director of Business Development will also serve as a Liaison to SBDC, PTAC, EUP Planning, Northern Initiatives, Inter-Tribal Council, STBA Mentor Program, and other entities to be identified. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Help business clients initiate, grow, and improve operations. Areas of assistance may include strategic planning, process improvement, financial analysis, loan preparation, market diversification, human resources, and organizational leadership.
- Build and maintain a substantial portfolio of high-potential clients.
- Stay abreast of federal, state, and regional economic development initiatives and support programs. Help clients best utilize these programs as well as strategic private sector partners.
- Represent the Sault Tribe and support initiation, growth, and maintenance of Sault Tribe Business member's relationships.
- Maintain documentation as required by the Sault Tribe and its funding sources.
- Stay abreast of federal, state, and regional economic development initiatives and support programs. Help client best utilize these programs as well as strategic private sector partners
- Facilitate business workshops on topics relevant to a client base.
- Director of Business Services will connect with clients in an office, remotely, and travel for on-site visits.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Attends meetings as required.
- Facilitates projects and internships.
- Facilitates workshops for Sault Tribe Peer.
- All other job-related duties as assigned.
CONTACTS: Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, executives, Board of Directors, customers, and outside vendors/service providers. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position lifts objects to 20 pounds with a team or dual lifting and frequent lifting/carrying of more than 50 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of hearing and smell; frequent standing, walking, and sitting; use of near/midrange/far vision; depth perception, color/field of vision, typing; occasional carrying/lifting and bending. Working conditions include occasional exposure to noise and vibration. Potential hazards include constant computer use. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business or business-related field required. Five years of demonstrated ability in relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree. Experience: Five years of experience in business leadership, management, or consulting required. Certification/License: Will be required to have a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Must have a valid driver's license and be insured by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have working knowledge of project management and training material development. Must have a working knowledge of practices and formats for growth and strategic planning, construction and project management, financial and human resources management, and effective training methods. Knowledge and proficiency in organizational/flow charts, project management, and other specialty software programs are preferred. Must have working knowledge and ability in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Create and foster strong professional relationships with and between Sault Tribe Business owners and members. Must be able to independently plan, organize, schedule, coordinate, and make decisions and judgments relating to projects and other responsibilities. Must apply sound analytical decision-making processes and approaches and develop alternative solutions to problems. Must communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in diverse audiences and settings. Must be able to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative. Working knowledge of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Must maintain confidentiality. Native American preferred.
