We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Dental Receptionist to join our dental practice. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, managing front desk operations, scheduling appointments, and ensuring smooth administrative workflows. This role requires excellent communication skills, proficiency with dental and medical software systems, and a strong understanding of healthcare documentation and patient confidentiality standards such as HIPAA. The Dental Receptionist will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient service while supporting the clinical team with administrative tasks.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly and provide outstanding customer service at the front desk
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments using EMR systems
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including insurance verification for various providers such as Medicare and Medicaid
- Collect payments and process medical billing using CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and other billing procedures
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette and handle patient inquiries efficiently
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure proper documentation review in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting patient information and updating electronic health records (EHR systems like Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks)
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and managing office supplies
- Support clinic operations by coordinating care plans, appointment reminders, and follow-up communications
- Ensure compliance with health information management standards and assist in documentation review for accuracy
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a medical or dental office setting; clinic or dental clinic experience is highly preferred
- Proficiency with dental practice management software such as Open Dental, Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks is a plus
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), and medical billing procedures
- Experience with insurance verification processes including Medicare and other insurance providers
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Goggle Workspace(Docs, Sheets), typing (10 key typing), and familiarity with office management tools
- Exceptional communication skills with professional phone etiquette; bilingual abilities are advantageous
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and record keeping
- Prior office or administrative experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
