Postsecondary Pathfinder Position Summary
The Postsecondary Pathfinder serves as a proactive coach, mentor, and connector for Lansing Promise scholars as they transition from high school into postsecondary education or vocational training. The Pathfinder helps students identify their goals, navigate college or program systems, and overcome obstacles to degree or certification completion. This position emphasizes student retention, persistence, and career alignment , ensuring Lansing Promise scholars are supported from postsecondary enrollment to completion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Individual Student Coaching
· Provide personalized academic, financial, and personal coaching to Lansing Promise scholars at partner
institutions (e.g., Lansing Community College, Michigan State University, The University of Olivet,
Davenport University, Douglas J Institute, and skilled trade programs).
· Help students set short- and long-term educational goals and develop completion plans aligned
with career interests.
· Support scholars with FAFSA renewal, course registration, and other academic processes.
· Conduct regular check-ins (virtual and in-person) with all active Lansing Promise scholars.
2. College Navigation & Resource Connection
· Help students understand and access campus resources — advising, tutoring, counseling, and
student activities.
· Build strong relationships with partner institutions to streamline communication and problem-solving
for Lansing Promise scholars.
· Connect students to wraparound support and community resources such as transportation, housing, food,
or mental health services.
3. Data Tracking & Program Reporting
· Maintain accurate records of scholar engagement, progress, and outcomes in Salesforce or a
designated tracking system.
· Monitor academic performance, identify early warning signs, and implement targeted interventions.
· Provide data and insights to the Executive Director to improve program design and student outcomes.
· Responsible for assigned KPI achievement based on strategic plan initiatives.
4. Community Engagement & Career Pathway Support
· Represent Lansing Promise at local schools, community events, and educational fairs.
· Collaborate with district counselors, teachers, and parents to identify and prepare future Promise
scholars to facilitate their transition to postsecondary institutions and vocational opportunities, such as
college, professional certifications, or skilled trades apprenticeships, after enrollment.
· Partner with local employers, workforce programs, and apprenticeship providers to connect students
to career-aligned pathways and internships.
5. Program Development & Communication
· Help develop and lead workshops on topics such as college transition, study skills, and time management.
· Contribute to the creation of retention and success materials tailored to Lansing Promise’s postsecondary
scholar community.
· Communicate regularly with students via text, email, and social media to maintain engagement and
build community.
6. Professional Collaboration
· Participate in local and statewide education and college access networks (e.g., CapCAN and Michigan
College Access Network) to learn and share best practices.
· Work collaboratively with Lansing Promise staff and post-secondary partner’s success teams to ensure
cohesive student support.
Qualifications
Required
· Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
· At least two years of experience in student success coaching, advising, mentoring, or case management.
· Demonstrated experience working with first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students.
· Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and database systems.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities independently.
· Reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver’s license.
Preferred
· Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education, or Student Affairs.
· Experience with college access, retention, or scholarship programs.
· Familiarity with Lansing area schools, colleges, and community resources.
· Experience managing data in CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce).
· Bilingual or multilingual skills.
Compensation & Benefits
· Salary Range: $50,000 – $60,000 (commensurate with experience)
· Position Type: Full-Time, partial grant-funded (renewable based on funding and performance)
