High School English Language Arts Teacher – Climax-Scotts Jr/Sr High School

Job Summary:
Climax-Scotts Jr/Sr High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School English Language Arts Teacher to provide engaging instruction that develops students’ reading, writing, communication, analysis, and critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate will foster a positive learning environment that encourages students to engage with literature and informational texts while preparing them for academic success, effective communication, and lifelong learning.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based English Language Arts instruction for high school students

  • Develop lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills
  • Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and growth
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students
  • Assess student progress using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies and provide timely feedback to students and families
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and classroom documentation
  • Integrate technology and a variety of instructional resources into classroom learning experiences
  • Encourage student discussion, collaboration, creativity, and independent thinking
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development, instructional improvement, and student achievement
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, parent conferences, and school activities as required
  • Maintain classroom management practices that promote respect, responsibility, and student engagement
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, district expectations, and state educational standards
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.

Qualifications:
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate English Language Arts endorsement required

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field required
  • Strong instructional, communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of current literacy standards, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies
  • Ability to effectively engage, motivate, and support high school students
  • Experience working with high school students preferred
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
