Controls Engineer - Automation & Machining
Position Summary:
A growth-oriented manufacturing company is seeking a Controls and Automation Engineer to support and maintain automation and control systems across multiple projects. This position works closely with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure efficient and reliable operation of automated systems.Key Responsibilities:
Manage budgets and capital expenditure requests for controls and automation projects
Troubleshoot electrical systems and automation equipment
Develop, write, and integrate PLC (Allen-Bradley/Siemens), FANUC Robotics, and HMI programs
Lead and manage automation and controls-related projects
Contribute to cell layout and manufacturing design improvements
Oversee specialized contract maintenance resources
Maintain inventory and manage spares for automation and control systems
Diagnose and repair electrical system issues for machines and plant equipment
Preventive maintenance management for robots
Propose and implement automation-related cost-saving initiatives
Support process improvement efforts, system upgrades, and equipment changeovers
Train and mentor off-shift support teams and junior staff
Establish and implement controls strategies including standards, specifications, and training
Ensure compatibility across various hardware/software versions
Monitor department costs and overtime
Perform additional related duties as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience
7–10 years of experience in maintenance or controls/automation roles
Strong background in electrical and electronics troubleshooting
Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing, preferably in automotive
Experience with:
FANUC Robotics
Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs
HMI development
Keyence & Cognex camera systems
Laser engraving systems
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to pass pre-employment screening (drug test, background check)
Willingness to follow internal handbook and policies
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
