Industrial Motor Services Business Development Manager — Metro Detroit
Imagine starting your day mapping out which plants in Metro Detroit you’ll visit, then stepping onto a production floor to turn a troubleshooting call into a long-term partnership. That’s the rhythm of business development at HECO’s Metro Detroit Service Center.
What your day looks like
You’ll cultivate new accounts and new business across the Detroit market using modern prospecting tools and on-site presence. By being visible and helpful where work happens, you’ll convert targeted prospects into active, recurring base accounts. You’ll build rapport with purchasing, maintenance, management, reliability, and engineering contacts, consistently uncovering opportunities across repair, product sales, equipment management, and reliability/predictive services.
How you create impact
- Own the Detroit territory/accounts, focusing on continuous development of new opportunities within HECO’s Metro Detroit Service Center service area.
- Be present on-site to move specified, targeted organizations into regular base accounts throughout the Metro Detroit area.
- Form strong relationships across customer teams—purchasing, maintenance, management, reliability, and engineering—to surface work spanning repair, product sales, equipment management, and reliability/predictive services.
- Take responsibility for communications during quoting and estimating. You’ll ensure all follow-ups happen and expectations are met—coordinating with HECO teammates and confirming that every customer touchpoint is clear, concise, and complete.
- When requested, visit customer sites to inspect problem or failed motors, evaluate possible replacements, or assess potential spares. Capture photos, measurements, and other data, then relay accurate information to Customer Service/Engineering to define the correct replacement motor parameters.
- Gather key details about any motor-related failures to open the door for additional HECO service offerings.
- Partner closely with HECO’s Customer Service team on pricing and lead times. If quotes don’t align with competitors, you’ll investigate why and persuasively demonstrate why HECO remains the best solution.
- Stay fully informed on your customers’ active and upcoming projects that could benefit from HECO’s services or products.
- Understand each customer’s spend/budget by service offering and forecast a financial target for the next fiscal year.
- Deliver compelling proposals and manage persuasive selling, then follow through from concept to implementation on proposed and active projects for all assigned and developed accounts.
- Participate in all weekly sales calls and Level 10 meetings.
- Schedule and attend one-on-one and team planning/sales sessions, prepared to discuss strategic planning, business development, training, and any need to refocus efforts.
- Set and achieve mutually agreed annual sales goals.
