Maintenance Technician
Name of Position: Repair Technician
Reports to: Maintenance Operations Manager
I. Summary:
Responsible for preventative maintenance, equipment repair and equipment installation.
II. Core Activities:
1. Production Equipment Preventive Maintenance:
a. Perform all scheduled mechanical and lubrication inspections.
b. Check each item for abnormal wear.
c. Check all oil levels in all reservoirs and lubricators.
d. Inspect all automatic oilers for proper flow.
e. Check chains, belts, slides, etc. for proper adjustment.
f. Inspect bearings, bushings, and shafts for excessive endplay or vibration.
g. Check all filters for restriction or damage.
h. Check all operator controls for proper function or any excessive noise.
i. Check paperwork for documentation of inspections or any adjustment made.
j. Generate work request for any abnormal condition found.
2. Support Equipment – Preventive Maintenance:
a. Forklifts:
i. Assistance with performing all schedule mechanical and lubrication inspection.
ii. Assistance with checking oil for proper level or dirty conditions.
iii. Assistance with check coolant level.
iv. Assistance with inspecting for oil or water leaks.
v. Assistance with checking hoses for wear or damage.
vi. Assistance with performing operational checks, lifts, brake, steering, etc.
vii. Assistance with cleaning as needed, wash exterior, motor, clear radiator.
viii. Assistance with completing all necessary paperwork for documentation of inspection or repair needed.
b. Overhead Cranes:
i. Assistance with performing all schedule mechanical and lubrication inspection.
ii. Assistance with checking gearboxes for proper oil levels.
iii. Assistance with checking condition of oil.
iv. Assistance with greasing all lube points.
v. Assistance with inspecting electrical controls and hardware for signs of wear or improper operation.
vi. Assistance with checking hoist, trolley and bridges for any abnormal wear, adjust air gap to specification.
vii. Assistance with inspecting wire rope and all other lift components for signs of fatigue or stress, lubricate as needed.
viii. Building Area Preventive Maintenance:
c. Overhead Doors:
i. Perform scheduled maintenance, as required.
ii. Check lift mechanism for proper operation.
iii. Adjust chains, if needed.
iv. Test safety switch for proper operation.
v. Inspect door tracks for excessive wear or damage.
vi. Lubricate, as needed.
vii. Test all operator controls for proper function.
viii. Document all inspection or any repairs needed.
d. Standby Electrical Generator:
i. Perform all scheduled maintenance, oil level, water level, etc.
ii. Operate unit monthly and check for proper operation, engine temp, output voltage, oil pressure, etc.
iii. Inspect battery charger for operation, block heater condition.
3. Preventive Maintenance Records, Maintenance Assistance Forms, Work Orders:
a. Record all preventive maintenance performed in the appropriate manual.
b. Indicate any abnormal condition found or repairs made.
c. List all work performed on Maintenance Assistance Forms and Work Orders.
d. Request any changes needed to improve PM operations.
e. Ensure that the proper information is posted to all Maintenance Assistance Forms and Work Orders.
4. Equipment Repairs:
a. Troubleshoot and repair all equipment, as necessary.
b. Communicate with production employees to obtain information on operational problems.
c. Relay information on equipment repairs to Maintenance Operations Manager.
d. Ensure all repairs comply with specifications required by the manufacturer.
e. Document any changes made to the original design of equipment.
f. Provide assistance to contractors as needed for repairs that have been contracted out.
5. Equipment Installation:
a. Install equipment to manufacturer’s specifications.
b. Installation of electrical equipment and other machinery in proper areas.
c. Maintenance Operations Department machines and equipment.
d. Installations must conform to all local codes and requirements.
e. All equipment installations are monitored by the Maintenance Operations Manager.
6. Equipment, Fixtures, Machine Accessory Fabrication:
a. Fabricate equipment or production accessories, as requested.
b. Have all designs approved by Maintenance Operations Manager.
7. Environmental Management System:
a. EMS Response Team member.
b. Working knowledge of instructions and procedures concerning environmental management.
8. Other duties as assigned: On call 24 hours, 7 days.
9. Has the authority to stop production if necessary to correct quality or safety problems.
III. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Ability to juggle multiple tasks.
2. Ability to attend to detail and maintain accuracy.
3. Knowledge of tools used in fabrication and repair; welders, torches, measuring devices, general hand tools, etc.
4. Ability to communicate with other employees by verbal and written directions.
5. Clerical skills needed to document work completed.
6. Knowledge of machine hydraulic, electrical and other basic control systems.
7. Knowledge of electrical test equipment used in machine troubleshooting and repair.

V. Experience and Education:
1. Minimum of 3 years hands on experience as a Maintenance Repair Technician.
2. 4 years of High School or GED.
