The Opportunity
As the director of our environment and natural resources (ENR) team , you will work with colleagues and clients to develop policy solutions related to Michigan’s environment, infrastructure, and natural resources. This role is instrumental in continuing PSC’s legacy of shaping Michigan’s environmental and natural resource policy.
This is an ideal role for an experienced professional seeking to:
- Provide thought leadership by offering expertise on key policy and technical topics and skillfully interpreting complex issues for diverse audiences
- Cultivate and manage projects by developing and maintaining key relationships and collaborating with colleagues to identify, design, and manage projects
- Mentor and develop talent by supervising and coaching staff, modeling PSC values, and contributing to talent development
- Deliver excellence by leading the ENR team in the execution of projects that reflect PSC’s commitment to high-quality, nonpartisan work
What You’ll Do
Project Leadership and Strategic Counsel
As a leader driving successful project execution and client satisfaction, you’ll:
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, overseeing the scopes of work and ensuring high-quality deliverables
- Serve as a strategic advisor to staff, guiding client service approaches and providing policy expertise
- Facilitate meetings, engage stakeholders, conduct research, create reports, and develop other client deliverables that synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences
- Provide strategic thought partnership to clients, demonstrating expertise through your knowledge of the policy landscape, the actors involved, and the steps necessary to achieve the desired outcomes
Client and Sales Development
As a team leader, you’ll:
- Collaborate with firm leaders to cultivate and manage key relationships, resulting in project sales and client retention
- Engage with colleagues to help develop the firm's sales and marketing strategies and tactics
- Lead team's sales development efforts, including advising on and writing proposals, monitoring the sales pipeline, and managing the team's capacity to meet sales goals
Professional Growth and Team Culture
To foster a balance of excellent work and collegiality, you’ll:
- Supervise and mentor staff, providing guidance in handling client and colleague relations and monitoring team capacity and performance
- Provide leadership and guidance for the coordination of training, processes, and client delivery across the policy teams
- Deliver a minimum of 1,040 hours of client services annually
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (public policy, environmental studies, economics, political science, or related field preferred); master’s degree preferred
Experience
- Ten years of relevant experience
- Strong relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers in Michigan's environmental and natural resource sectors
- Experience working on public policy topics with diverse stakeholders
- Experience managing complex projects, working directly with clients, and mentoring or supervising others
Technical Skills
- Strong competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong policy research and writing skills, with the ability to accurately interpret data and write concisely

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $107,770 to 161,655 (based on education and experience)

Work Style
While PSC does not have strict in-office expectations, directors should anticipate spending two to three days per week in our Lansing or Detroit office for client and firm meetings.
