Large utility is looking for an Electrical Construction Manager in Saginaw, MI. responsibilities:

  • Leads and oversees field construction for utility substation, transmission, and high-voltage distribution projects (12kV-500kV).

  • Champions a safety-first culture by enforcing OSHA 1910.269, NESC, and NFPA 70E regulatory standards.

  • Supervises contracted workforces to ensure compliance with utility standards, drawings, and approved work packages.

  • Coordinates complex switching clearances, tagging, outages, and energization activities with system operations.

  • Interprets technical engineering packages, including one-line diagrams, schematics, and P&C wiring prints.

  • Manages the installation of high-voltage equipment such as breakers, transformers, relays, and buswork.

  • Conducts detailed quality inspections and validates testing results for grounding systems and control circuits.

  • Acts as the primary field liaison between engineering, operations, protection & control, and project management.

  • Tracks labor, equipment, and material usage to monitor budget adherence and project milestones.

  • Identifies scope variances and manages field changes through formal engineering coordination processes.

  • Performs daily tailboards, safety audits, and field verifications to mitigate operational risks.
Skills:

  • strong understanding of utility construction standards, work methods, and safety rules.

  • Substation grounding, structures, and HV equipment installation.

  • Transmission and distribution line construction (OH/UG).

  • Protection & control systems, relay panels, and control house wiring.

  • Switching, tagging, and clearance procedures.

  • Ability to manage contractors and multi-discipline crews in a live utility environment with an unwavering focus on safety.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex utility drawings and technical packages.

  • strong communication skills with engineering, operations, field personnel, and contractors.
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

  • 8-15 years of experience in utility transmission, distribution, or substation construction or field operations.

  • Certifications such as OSHA 30, PMP, or utility-specific qualifications (e.g., switching or clearance certification).
