Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Proficient at all phases of the substation job planning process, including ensuring the delivery of appropriate work packages through the assessment of project and material needs. Consults with those performing maintenance, repair, and capital improvement activities, including engineers, substation electric maintenance journeymen (EMJs), apprentices, and riggers/ironworkers. Performs all phases of the job planning process and ensures that projects are completed timely and in accordance with all safety and environmental regulations. Span of control = 0 this is an individual contributor job.

Key Accountabilities

  • Travels to substations, warehouses, and repair sites on a regular basis to assess project and material needs.
  • Ensures that appropriate construction equipment and materials are acquired and distributed from warehouses to electric substation job sites for maintenance, repair, new construction, or development.
  • Participates in the assessment of substation equipment or building problems and collaborates in the best approach for maintenance, repair, etc.
  • Determines if materials or work package requested are correct/appropriate.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and standards.
  • Procures, updates, and/or amends drawings as necessary to perform and accurately document substation repair, renovation and construction work.
  • Plans, prepares, and revises substation work packages for electric substation repair, renovation and construction projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Develop a detailed construction plan that involves planned outages, construction phases, construction steps, material, and equipment requirements, lay down areas, and overall time schedule with final ready for load dates that align with the project plan.
  • Translate functional policy into processes and procedures that drive greater efficiencies for the client and ensure compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental regulatory standards/ legislation/governance. Understand collective bargaining agreements that could impact work plan delivery.
  • Works with various Distribution Operations and Power Generation groups to resolve conflicts associated with work package and project planning and timing, e.g. Requests for Shutdown (RSD).
  • Operates computer terminals to access Distribution Operations and Power Generation informational databases, including MAXIMO, SAP and PRIMAVERA
  • Coordinates and conduct parts and equipment requisitioning and ordering
  • Trains and mentors team members who are less proficient in performing all phases of the substation job planning process.
  • Uses continuous improvement tools to identify and close process gaps and reduce cycle times and defects

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following three options:

  • High School diploma or GED, and 6+ years of experience, including apprenticeship time, in the following jobs, electrical maintenance journeyman or substation operator; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and five years of experience working in an electrical distribution systems engineering or operations environment; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and three years of experience within a job planning function

Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

Other Requirements

  • Must have the ability and experience to read and interpret blueprint and electric schematic drawings.
  • Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly and effectively with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the Corporation.
  • Analytical and advanced problem solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations
  • Ability to work in a team and/or matrix structure, supporting multiple clients and applying appropriate procedures and policies.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications sufficient to apply/support them with minimal instruction or guidance. This level of proficiency typically attainable through 3+ year(s) of substantive experience with these applications. Applications include (but are not limited to): MAXIMO, SAP, PRIMAVERA and Microsoft Office
  • Some travel required within the Company's service area.
