POSITION OVERVIEW

The Staff Engineer will work within the Energy Waste Reduction and Energy Efficiency business sector. The ideal candidate will use their experience in the energy industry to assist with methods, procedures, technical documentation, and utility demand-side management (DSM) and conservation programs to help achieve business goals and objectives.

The Staff Engineer will engage with subject matter experts as well as engineering, sales, finance, legal, and business development teams to gather key information. They will represent and articulate the full range of our operational services and programs to partners and customers, aiming to align with current and future needs as part of an overarching customer strategy.

This role also involves networking with potential clients, attending industry conferences, researching business opportunities, and developing proposal content and formal presentations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Standardize and maintain operational field procedures.
  • Develop and maintain continuous improvement processes.
  • Refine and manage the company’s internal Evaluation, Measurement & Verification (EM&V) process.
  • Represent company at local, state, regional, and national conferences, workshops, and networking events to identify and establish business development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development, Strategy, and Launch teams to integrate operational best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with new and existing contacts.
  • Utilize internal tools and technical resources (e.g., MEMD) to create a library of standardized savings and cost models.
  • Support the Energy Management System as part of company’s Corporate Sustainability Plan.
  • Analyze Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Quotes (RFQs), Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) Task Orders, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of our products and services to effectively represent the company during bids and proposals.
  • Proofread and edit proposal content, project summaries, resumes, and supporting materials for clarity, grammar, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with business/building owners, facilities personnel, engineers, and contractors to recommend energy efficiency solutions.
  • Conduct on-site building walkthroughs to identify energy-saving opportunities in commercial and/or industrial buildings and provide follow-up support.
  • Participate in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and internal audit activities.
  • Contribute to energy modeling efforts with finance and other departments.
  • Apply knowledge of industry standards (e.g., BPI, RESNET HERS, AEE, ASHRAE, ICC) and electrification practices to improve program designs.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
  • Explain how building systems (e.g., lighting, HVAC, water heating, envelope) affect utility consumption and support business cases for energy efficiency investments.
  • Input and analyze data to calculate energy savings and track project progress.
  • Collaborate with Energy Advisors and Engineers to maximize technical support for clients.
  • Monitor and analyze data reporting.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Energy Advisors and support staff.
  • Ensure compliance with SEEL’s safety and quality policies and OSHA regulations.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in business, engineering, engineering technology, natural resources, or environmental science.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy efficiency, demand-side management (DSM), or related fields.
  • Solid understanding of energy efficiency technologies and practices.
  • Experience in commercial proposal development in a fast-paced corporate setting.
  • Familiarity with national, regional, and local energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Highly polished written and verbal communication skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of energy efficiency program structures and the utility regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel tasks.
  • Ability to develop and deliver client-facing presentations.
