Computing Youth Outreach Coordinator
Dean of Career and Technical Education Education/Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a computing related field.
- Current Wyoming teaching license preferred.
- Ability to program in Python or JavaScript.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and the ability to supervise and mentor students through their educational path.
- Ability to introduce and instruct computer science, coding, and computational thinking to a diverse population representing a wide range of ages and abilities.
- Skills in elementary curriculum building and the ability to provide professional coaching to teachers for curriculum implementation.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal communication and management skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in promoting programming initiatives through public demonstrations, workshops, and written articles.
- Ability to work in a collaborative fashion with various faculty and community stakeholders in an environment that values collegiality and respectful treatment.
- Experience working with administrators and participating in cross-functional committees to ensure educational alignment.
- Web application programming experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, PHP, or C++.
- Knowledge of modern development tools and processes, including GIT, IDEs, and relational databases.
- Comfort working in rapid prototyping environments and a demonstrated ability to incorporate educational technology into instruction.
- Classroom and office setting
- Travel to K-12 Sheridan County School District 2 schools
- Coaching / teaching experience; elementary or junior high instruction experience preferred.
- Work closely with school administrators and teachers to develop and build age-appropriate CS and information technology curriculum specifically for elementary and junior high levels. This includes the direct instruction of CS, coding, and computing to students.
- Provide ongoing professional development and coaching to elementary teachers to help them integrate computing into their classrooms.
- Plan and coordinate School District STEM camps and other tech events. Promote programming and general computing through workshops, demonstrations, articles, and presentations.
- Participate in K-12 Professional Learning Community (PLC) groups and applicable computing committees. Collaborate with secondary and college instructors to ensure vertical articulation of the curriculum.
- Participate in department functions that promote the computer science and information technology programs and Sheridan College to prospective students, parents and other interested parties.
- Committee work and other institutional responsibilities.
