Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and self-directed HR Manager / Payroll Specialist (Generalist) to lead all day-to-day human resources functions while also owning payroll administration. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who can operate independently, establish and improve HR processes, and ensure compliance across the employee lifecycle.
The right candidate is both strategic and detail-oriented, with a strong working knowledge of HR best practices, payroll systems, and employment regulations. Experience with BambooHR is a plus, though not required.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Management
· Lead all HR operations including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and offboarding
· Develop, document, and improve HR policies, procedures, and workflows
· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
· Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on HR-related matters
· Manage employee records and HRIS systems, maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
· Support benefits administration including enrollment, changes, and employee communication
· Drive employee engagement initiatives and support organizational culture efforts
Payroll Administration
· Process and manage biweekly (or semi-monthly) payroll accurately and on time
· Maintain payroll records, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings
· Ensure compliance with payroll laws and reporting requirements
· Coordinate with finance team on payroll entries, reconciliations, and reporting
· Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries
Qualifications
Required
· 5+ years of progressive HR generalist or HR manager experience
· Demonstrated experience processing payroll independently
· Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and compliance requirements
· Proven ability to work independently and build/own processes from the ground up
· High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism
· Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems
Preferred
· Experience with BambooHR or similar HR systems
· Experience in nonprofit or healthcare/behavioral health settings
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
· HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR)
