SCADA Technician
job summary:
Large utility is looking for a SCADA Technician in Jackson, MI. This role is responsible for testing, validating, and troubleshooting SCADA telemetry systems, RTU/IED communications, and protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850 while ensuring reliable grid operations, accurate data integration, and compliance with NERC/CIP security and utility standards.

responsibilities:
- Tests, validates, and troubleshoots SCADA telemetry systems.
- Ensures reliable integration of RTU, IED, and field device data into SCADA systems.
- Supports grid operations by maintaining accurate telemetry and control functions.
- Works with engineering, operations, and IT teams to maintain SCADA performance.
- Performs SCADA head-end point-to-point testing and validation.
- Validates digital status signals, analog values, alarms, and control points.
- Verifies transducer scaling and sequence-of-events accuracy.
- Confirms point mapping, naming conventions, and database configurations.
- Validates telemetry configurations within the SCADA master system.
- Checks RTU and IED logic against engineering documentation and standards.
- Troubleshoots data mapping errors, scaling issues, and communication failures.
- Familiar with SCADA communication protocols (DNP, IEC 61850, Modbus) and SCADA telemetry systems using IP networking.
- Familiar with NERC Compliance requirements.
- Familiar with supporting and maintaining HMI one-line displays and other real-time displays.
- Ability to identify patterns and use problem-solving skills to create a solution to chronic issues.
- Ability to identify process gaps and suggest process enhancement, decommissioning, and/or creation.
- Knowledge and/or experience in utility operations.
