JOB HIGHLIGHTS

POSITION PURPOSE: Visit Detroit is seeking an organized, motivated, and enthusiastic intern to join the Destination Services and Partnerships team. This internship offers hands-on, real-world experience within Detroit’s hospitality and tourism industry. The selected candidate will actively support member partnership initiatives, assist with meeting and convention servicing efforts, and contribute to destination support through the D-Rover — Visit Detroit’s mobile visitor center.

LOCATION & SCHEDULE:

  • Part-Time; Non-Exempt Summer Internship
  • 28 hours per week from May to August. Before or during events, hours may exceed 40 hours in one week and could involve some nights and weekends.

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

  • Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license.

PREFERRED:

  • Two years of a combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Hospitality or event planning experience/education.

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Committed to partnering with Visit Detroit in embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into company culture and operations, and actively contributing to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all employees and stakeholders.
  • Assist with updating the partnership database, including processing profile changes and communicating with membership contacts.
  • Assist with conducting research to collect and verify partner account information to ensure accuracy in internal systems.
  • Provide administrative support to the Partner Sales team, including outreach preparation and coordination.
  • Support with the Neighborhood Promotion Program.
  • Assist with print production and signage coordination to welcome incoming conventions, meetings, and events.
  • Support Destination Services initiatives, including D-Rover mobile visitor engagement.
  • Assist with the production and printing of posters and other event-related materials.
  • Gather and organize collateral materials for booked and prospective groups.
  • Help set up welcome tables and prepare materials for incoming groups and events.
  • Assist with preparing and delivering client cards and gift distributions.
  • Assist with general administrative duties within the Destination Services and Partnerships teams.
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Senior Vice President, Destination Services, partnerships & Events.
  • Professionally represent Visit Detroit at events and partner engagements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hospitality industry terminology and best practices in customer service.
  • Promote Visit Detroit’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by contributing to a welcoming and inclusive environment.

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Manage various projects to help achieve Customer/Partner Services goals.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to clearly express thoughts, ideas, and concepts, verbally and in writing, in the English language.
  • Skilled in organizing, prioritizing, and analyzing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to think and manage creatively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains a positive and professional work attitude, appearance, and behavior even in the most demanding situation.
  • Ability to work effectively in both remote and in-person work environment; proficient using video conferencing software and other remote work tools.
  • Proficient in using personal computer software and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Available weekends and outside of normal work hours for assignments and travel, as needed.
  • Ability to drive larger vehicles (D-Rover) and satisfactory driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office work involves extended periods of sitting or working at a desk, utilizing repetitive typing motions on a computer or laptop, and reading text on a video display monitor.
  • Ability to perform extensive standing and/or walking for work-related assignments and events.
  • Ability to lift push, and or carry up to 40lbs. occasionally
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Occasional work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Compensation details: 16-16 Yearly Salary
