Community Market Manager
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit exists to build a more equitable and compassionate world through meaningful personal relationships, providing whatever is needed to help our neighbors get back on their feet and on a path towards self-sustainability. Our programs provide support ranging from utility, housing, and food assistance, to education and mentorship. We also operate a network of thrift stores, two camps and a nutritional center. We are passionate about driving systemic change and helping our neighbors in Metro-Detroit break out of poverty.
This position is responsible for the facility management of the Community Market, which is full-service client choice food pantry, as well as guest and volunteer experience, inventory and operations management. This position will also be responsible for community outreach to engage community neighbors in need and partnering organizations. This innovative, new, dedicated operation will provide unprecedented retail grocery-like access for food-insecure consumers in Detroit to fresh produce, milk and eggs in a retail grocery-like experience via in-store shopping. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Lead development, documentation and ongoing refinement of standard operating procedures and processes including produce stocking, cooler and freezer stocking, guest registration, guest checkout, and guest complaint/issue management.
- Manage volunteers and day-to-day operations to deliver retail-like guest experience; service hours will include evenings and Saturdays.
- Schedule, train and develop volunteers to deliver targeted guest experience while ensuring a high-satisfaction volunteer experience.
- Lead food order and inventory management within budget to ensure sufficient availability, variety and choice; manage point-of-sale (POS) system updates to align availability with in-person shopping.
- Manage adherence with food safety and cleanliness standards.
- Implement policies and procedures to ensure guest, volunteer and staff safety and security.
- Implement regular operational performance tracking and reporting; leverage data to improve operational efficiency and guest experience.
- Ensure data and metrics tracking for impact and grants reporting
- Be a spokesperson and advocate for the Community Market.

- Maintains volunteers by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training volunteers, developing opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum five years’ experience in organizational (for-profit and/or non-profit) management and administration required; retail experience a plus
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Demonstrated commitment to servant leadership managerial approach
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage ambiguity required
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, think critically and resolve issues
- Strong oral and written communications skills required.
- Experience in multi-tasking, taking initiative, problem-solving, quickly adapting to change, and successfully working under pressure and time constraints, with attention to detail.
- Must possess excellent task and project management skills; utilizing a variety of resources that maximize time and allow for the successful fulfillment of the task or project.
- Non-profit sector work experience preferred.
- Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences and personalities.
- Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to correct unforeseen issues on the spot during events.
- Ability to effectively lead and work with volunteers, community leaders and the public.
- Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule.
- Ability to establish credibility, trust, and partnership at all levels of an organization.
- Ability to deliver results with little supervision and effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects and priorities.
- Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms (Teams, Zoom, etc.)
- Familiarity with database or inventory management software preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365; specifically, employees are required to use Outlook as well as Excel, Word, Power Point and Publisher.
- The standard work environment is a combination of both onsite and offsite conditions. Office setting includes fluorescent lighting; temperature and humidity are controlled. The noise level is usually low.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to speak, hear and use hands. This position will spend significant time hands on time working in the site operations.
